Dawn Steel, Wedding Coordinator and Floral Designer:
I was born and raised in that great mid-west city of Cleveland, Ohio. Home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! I moved to California when I was 21, because that snow is a tough one!
How long have you been in the wedding and events industry?
Between all of the different things I’ve done in the industry, it’s been about 10 years.
What is your favorite part of wedding planning?
One of my favorite parts is when I can really help a couple bring their vision to life. It can be something major like finding the right venue or something more minor like helping choose the right color or fabric for their linens. Many times couples ask for advice on how to make their theme more apparent. I am so happy when I can help with fun or interesting ideas on how to do that.
When you are not coordinating weddings, what do you enjoy doing?
I love working in my garden, I think I inherited my mother’s green thumb! It always makes me feel better when I’m stressed. I like taking drives around San Diego and working on the floral business that I have with my husband. We also love wine, so finding good spots for tastings is fun.
Where is your favorite place to vacation?
I am obsessed with Hawaii! I’ve been to Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, and Kauai… I think Maui is my favorite. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I absolutely love skiing – I’m very new to it but love skiing in Utah and hopefully someday in Wyoming and other popular resorts.
What are your favorite restaurants or spots in San Diego?
Probably my favorite all-time restaurant is Eddie V’s – I’m a steak and lobster girl. The Field and Oceanair in the Gaslamp, Chocolat and Bread & Cie in Hillcrest, Mr. Sushi and Kono’s in Pacific Beach, Bleu Boheme in Kensington, and Proprieter’s Reserve Wine Bar in Normal Heights. San Diego has so many great places!
How do you want to be remembered?
I would like to be remembered for being a nice, caring, generous, honest, and fair person. Someone who did all they could to make you feel like you were being heard and understood. The libra in me would like to have made a mark somehow.
